Advantages of Un-Fluxed Solder Wick: Because there are so many different styles of fluxes currently used in the printed circuit board (pcb) industry, most high-reliability companies have become very "picky" about what fluxes are even allowed into their facilities, so as not to cross/mix fluxes which can cause quality problems. And so, a growing industry trend requires that even solder wick -- a benchtop standard -- not be "pre-fluxed". Using solder wick that is "un-fluxed", technicians can use their own flux along with an un-fluxed wick. No worry of mixing fluxes. This is even more important in PCB Rework.

The well-documented problems created by mixing some "water soluble" fluxes with the more traditional, established rosin/resin based fluxes that can cause "white residue" build-up, or preventing solder reflow from pads to component leads, has resulted in the rising popularity of "un-fluxed wick" with benchtop technicians, engineers and quality personnel.
